I have achieved unlimited speed.. ..But nowhen to put it.. Please forgive me brother, my lust for speedrunning has gone too far. Darkness is all that is left for me now.
— Mario

Mario (マリオ), also referred to as Speedrunner Mario, WAHOO, is the central "antagonist" of the Something About series, serving as the main protagonist of Season 1, the main "antagonist" of Season 2 and the central "antagonist" of Season 3. Mario is the older brother of Luigi, and opposes Bowser.

Originally a force for good, Mario's lust for speedrunning eventually consumed him. After sacrificing himself to defeat Dharkon, he was possessed by the TAS Speed Demon, who used his body to try to reach infinite speeds and manipulate reality. Only the combined intervention of Sonic the Hedgehog in his "Super Chili Dogs" form, Kirbo, his brother Luigi, and the Star Variance Authority saved him from eternal possession, and with the Speed Demon imprisoned and the timelines reset, he went back to living with Luigi in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario also appears in other TerminalMontage works, such as NoPuNintendo and Mario and Luigi series.

Physical Appearance

Mario is a plumber with a round body structure, a red shirt with blue overalls that sports two golden buttons. His famous red cap with an "M" emblazoned on it and a mustache with four bumps. He wears white round gloves. Mario's head consists of dotted eyes, brown hair, and thin black boots. In the Mario & Luigi series, NoPUNintendo series, and I AM THE CAPPYTAIN NOW, Mario looks much more like his original counterpart, being taller and less cartoony than Something About Super Mario 64, Something About Super Mario World, and Something About Super Mario All-Stars Speedrun. In Speedrunner Mario VS Melee Fox and Something About Super Smash Bros: THE SUBSPACE EMISSARY, he occasionally shifts art styles to an animesque look with a muscular body, a detailed face, and a pronounced chin. Mario also speaks Japanese in this style. In All SSBU characters drawn in the Something Style!, Dr. Mario is seen.

Abilities

Like his canonical counterpart, Mario has superhuman strength, athleticism, and durability, but unlike the original Mario, Wahoo has unparalleled speed which allows him to manipulate and traverse parallel universes. Mario's signature move is the Backwards Long Jump(BLJ) which grants him access to many of his infamous glitches. Mario also manifested a TAS (Tool-Assisted Speedrunner) Speed Demon which increased his power by giving him guaranteed frame-perfect inputs. Mario can also use many power-ups such as the Feather Cape which he uses in his Speedrun of Super Mario World. His main form of attack is slapping, hard enough for a character's skin to melt off and contort their face. Mario can abuse his BLJ to create afterimages of himself to trick people, notably Fox into believing they were fighting Mario when in fact it was an afterimage. In Something About Smash Bros WORLD OF LIGHT, he transformed into Master Hand in order to destroy Dharkon. This was only after seeing a vision of Masahiro Sakurai who expressed his regret in combining Super Smash Bros. with memes. Mario has not been able to use this ability since.

History

In Mario & Luigi's Plumbing Plantastrophe!

Mario and his brother Luigi travel to Princess Peach's Castle to fix a broken toilet, but instead of actually helping, he just flirts with Peach. when the Naval Piranha took Peach away, Mario decided to climb the beast's spiky vine to rescue her.

In Mario & Luigi's Ultimate Attack!

The Mario Bros. encounter and fight a Goomba. Mario and his brother decided to launch their ultimate attack: Mario stretches Luigi's neck far enough launch himself in the Goomba's direction. Instead of hitting the Goomba, Mario lands on a rocky wall and propels himself back to Luigi with his legs. Luigi catches him, the two spin together and change roles; Mario ends up accidentally throwing Luigi into the Sun. Mario and the Goomba then watch with horror the damage they've caused from a cliff, after the Sun (which has fused with Luigi) starts to destroy the Solar System and the Mushroom Kingdom.

In I AM THE CAPPYTAIN NOW

During this video, Mario falls down on the ground when ambushed by a group of Bonneters. Cappy arrives, telling a nervous Mario to look at him directly in the eyes. After several minutes of monologuing, Cappy puts himself on Mario's head, and the latter walks away, unimpressed.

In the NoPUNintendo series

In this series, Mario only appears in two of the compilations, them being NoPUNintendo 1 and 4. He appears first in NoPUNintendo - Bruise Like A Peach, where, he is seen driving, waiting for the traffic light. Luigi jokingly punches him and Mario responds with a peach related-joke, much to Peach's dismay. In NoPUNintendo - Metal Mario, he plays the banjo at a concert. Then, a Punk Toad complains "No no no! We want metal, Mario!", and his Metal counterpart appears behind the curtain. In NoPUNintendo - We Need More 1UPs!, Koops and Vivian are seen transporting a downed Paper Mario to a Shop to get more 1UPs. In his final NPN appearance, NoPUNintendo - Geno, Mario defeats Bower alongside Geno. Geno offers Mario to help him save the world, but Mario refuses while accidentally making a pun on Geno's name.

In Something About Yoshi's Island

During the events of SAYI, Mario appears as his younger self, Baby Mario. He adventures with the Yoshis to find his lost brother. After Yoshi slapped, spanked and tossed Baby Bowser through the window and into the lava, Baby Mario finally meets his long-lost brother, who appears to be Wario. Mario screams as he doesn't recognize Wario and wants to go back with Yoshi, but the latter leaves him stranding at Bowser's Castle.

In Something About GENO FOR SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE and Something About Sonic The Hedgehog

He briefly appears as a cameo in these two episodes. In the post-credits short of SASTH, Mario is seen on a photo that Luigi uses for his theories about the TAS Speed Demon. In SAGFSBU, he also appears in a photo, along with others such as Link and Pikachu.

In Something About Luigi's Mansion

At the beginning of the video, Mario is seen jumping into the haunted mansion, and has seemingly got trapped in by King Boo. While Luigi is searching for him inside, he keeps yelling "Yahoo!", "Wahoo!" and other typical sounds he would make. Venturing further into the mansion, Luigi discovers that King Boo intended to trap Mario in a painting to sacrifice him to a demon. After saving him from the demon and killing the ghostly king, Luigi brings Mario back at Peach's Castle. In the post-credit short, Mario's painting is seen hanged on a wall for eternity, while Peach pays Luigi for the piece so that she can finally breathe in peace.

In Something About Super Mario 64 and Something About Super Mario World

Mario appears as the main protagonist in these two episodes. In SASM64, Mario explores Peach's Castle to defeat Bowser and rescue Peach, but relies on his BLJ and Wall Clipping techniques to speed his way through the castle's paintings. In SASMW, the mustachioed hero sets out to Dinosaur Land to save Peach and the Yoshi Eggs, while destroying anything that moves. After defeating Bowser in a brutal way, Mario approaches Peach with violent intentions and Luigi arrives with a Bible to exorcise his brother, who briefly becomes a demon and flies away.

In Something About Super Smash Bros. and Something About Smash Bros. WORLD OF LIGHT

In the intro cutscene of SASSB, Mario is seen alongside Samus, Kirby and Yoshi in the toy box. He also appears on the Smash mode preview image, when Link chooses to play 8-Player Smash. On the other hand, Mario is one of the main protagonists in SASBWOL. After Kirby rescues him from the influence of Master Hand, Mario joins him during the fight againstGaleem. Arriving at Bowser's Castle, Mario and Yoshi leave the group to personally deal with Bowser. After Bowser's Master Hand explodes, thanks to Samus, he falls back on the ground, and Mario and Yoshi slap him very hard, killing him. Heading towards the castle's exit, they ignore Peach, who is stuck inside a cage to rejoin the team. Near the end, Dharkhon appears and defeats Fox. Kirby tries to kill him using holy powers, but realizes that he forgot his cross and his Bible at home. When the situation becomes desperate, Mario decides to take action, transforms into a Master Hand, says farewell to Kirby and punches Darkhon in the eye, seemingly killing them both. In the intro cutscene of Something About Super Mario World, Mario explains to Luigi that he came back alive from his fight against Darkhon using parallel universes, though it is not explained in depth.

In Speedrunner Mario VS Melee Fox

In the first episode of Something Versus, Mario is pitted to fight Fox on Final Destination. After realizing that Mario was building up his speed for 12 hours prior to the match, Fox gets beaten up by Mario's afterimages. Mario is determined that victory will be his only when he will have defeated Fox in every parallel universe. He sets out to beat up Fox in all of the parallel universes and acquire the Scuttlebug, the key to the Multiverse. After Fox destroys the last remaining Scuttlebug with his Arwing, Mario's inner demon, TAS Speed Demon, tries to get Fox to go down with him. Fox uses Hyperspeed to evade the demon, but it instead creates a massive black hole (due to Mario's QPUS being misaligned) that sucks up Mario and his demon. Mario is sent floating about in the void, regretting his lust for speedrunning. He then realizes that he can reverse and displace himself a few PU to make a Scuttlebug inside Peach's Castle basement jump up to him, ground pound it and undo the black hole. The black hole reverses, exploding and launching away Mario and Fox. Mario wakes up under a pile of rubble on Final Destination and is declared the winner of the match.

In Something About Super Mario All-Stars

In the penultimate episode of Season 3 Mario took on an Antagonistic role for the first time in TerminalMontage media. Mario speedruns Super Mario Bros 1 through 3 using speedrunner tactics and taking advantage of glitches in all three games, as well as his continued usage of the BLJ. This is also the first time the Super Mario games are shown to not necessarily take place in one universe but rather multiple parallel universes, with the events of the multiple games taking place across different universes (one such example is how Super Mario Bros. 2 was shown to be just a dream, but we then see Mario awaking form his bed, presumably to travel to another universe). Although he was not inherently malevolent, his speed-running did get out of control to the point that Luigi and Kirbo needed to stage an intervention. As it turns out, Luigi and Kirbo had been travelling across the different parallel universes to chase down Mario and cure him of his lust, but this fails (yet again, as we learn) and Mario BLJs to another universe.

In Something About Smash Bros THE SUBSPACE EMISSARY

Mario appears, possessed by the Speed Demon, where he escapes Luigi and Kirbo on the red planet Slippy and Samus were seen in Something About Star Fox 64 and Something About Super Metroid. He was later seen in space in the middle of all the ships, then captured by Tabuu in the Subspace. He builds up too much speed and kills Tabuu before having a fight with Sonic, which he wins by reversing time, however it gives Kirbo and Luigi time to capture him. They then exorcise the Speed Demon, freeing Mario. He is later seen in Mario and Luigi's house where he hears that Peach has been kidnapped. Rather than get enraged and quickly run to Bowser's location, he simply yelled "Mama Mia!" and calmly left the house with Toad.
